Ergonomic Washing Machine
Introduction
My task was to redesign and restyle an "urban appliance" for a purpose of your choice. I needed to identify a problem based on the urban environment and propose a solution to resolve the problem. The “urban appliance” I chose was a washing machine.
Problem Statement
Washing machine currently available on the market are not very ergonomic to use especially for senior citizens and the disabled
Design Statement
Height and angle that would reduce back and joint pain for elderly and disabled while operating
Design Criteria
Design will be focused on improving the ergonomics of the washing machine compared to the ones available on the market
Target Audience
Elderly and disabled
Inspiration
I conducted a comprehensive study of various washing machine models available in the market, delving into their impact on user ergonomics. Among the more prevalent options, both front-loaders and top-loaders emerged.
Nevertheless, it became evident that these designs could potentially induce strains on the user's back.

Shopping Cart Study
Based on the research and survey conducted on 3 types of common supermarket trolleys, a summarised table has been made that highlights the issues with these trolleys.
Using the data obtained from the research and surveys conducted, 3 concepts were derived aiming to solve the issues that were faced

Chosen 3 Concepts
The wooden blocks on the foam mockups are to simulate the weight distribution of the sanitizer liquid corresponding to the designs.
The total weight of the wooden blocks on each mockup is approximately 300grams which corresponds to 300ml of sanitizer liquid.
A survey was done using the mockups.
Final Mockup
A new and improved design was made using input from the first 3 concepts.
